Join CARD at the 15th Annual Disability Expo 2024, where CARD is proud to serve as a Gold Sponsor. The Expo’s mission is to provide full access to information and resources from a wide variety of agencies and organizations, promoting a better quality of life for people with disabilities in Champaign County and East Central Illinois. CARD will host a table at the event, offering information about research opportunities to potential participants.

CARD Student Research Fair
Join CARD for our Student Research Fair in the DRES lobby! This open house event will give CARD members a chance to present and demo their research studies. It’s also a great opportunity for students with disabilities to provide input on future research ideas and for undergraduate students associated with DRES to learn about opportunities to work in our labs.
The first 30 minutes will be a social time to check out different groups, enjoy some food, and pick up swag. The second 30 minutes will feature rapid elevator pitches about CARD labs and projects so students can hear about all labs in attendance. The final 30 minutes will continue with social time for questions and discussions.

CARD Lunch with Dr. Garrett Grindle, CHAD Keynote Speaker
Join CARD for a special lunch with Dr. Garrett Grindle, Associate Director for Engineering at Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) and Research Scientist at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Grindle oversees device design, development, and prototyping for HERL’s projects and has extensive experience designing assistive technology prototypes for field trials. He also leads the technical side of the VA’s Technology Transfer Assist Program, helping move VA inventions to commercial licensees through high-fidelity prototypes. His research interests include assistive robots, adaptive sports equipment, power wheelchair interfaces, and smart devices to assist with transfers.
This event will take place after the CHAD Symposium, offering an opportunity to learn from Dr. Grindle’s work and engage in conversation during lunch.
